WMD’s Five Commandments for Social Media
A visual brand identity is all about how your business looks and feels on social media. On Instagram, a strong visual identity can help strengthen your brand message, make you look more professional, and even convert visitors to your profile into lifelong followers.
Not all color is created equal when it comes to branding. Creating a kickass color palette for your brand isn’t just a matter of personal taste or favorite colors. Before you start posting, put your head down, forget the inspiration sources and think about YOUR brand. What are you trying to communicate and to whom? Of course, this gets clearer over time, but you have to start somewhere. It’s not that easy to create a color palette but we follow a process that will hopefully help you. With WM.Digital (WMD) we picked Hermés orange as our action color. The action color is used for buttons, links, and calls to action. Black is used for our headers and navigation. Royal blue is our iconic color. The iconic brand color will be most widely associated with your brand. In other words, when people see this color, they know you’re behind the content without ever having to see your logo or name. The last two colors you need to define for your palette is the background and text color. These colors should be opposite in the intensity scale. The dim gray we use is for the text body and white is used for most of our backgrounds.
Stories are THE most entertaining and engaging forms of digital content both on and off Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. Rather than producing one-off videos on a semi-regular basis, create your own episodic video series to increase your reach, up your engagement, and keep your followers coming back for more. Calling out other brands and people in stories will allow them to repost in their story’s feed. Using your color palette will help brand the content and allow followers to continue associating you with a specific look, feel, and style.
Carousel posts level-up content sharing that can be creatively applied to showcase panoramic images or a series of carousel posts to tell a story. With the ability to share up to 10 images in one post, carousels are the perfect tool for storytelling, as well as breaking down heavy information and visual content into digestible bites.
Puzzle Grid allows each image you post to interact with those around it, creating a bigger picture that blends together seamlessly on your profile page. Add a carousel to the puzzle grid posts to make it more engaging and entertaining!
Branded AR Filters
Ever since Instagram opened Spark AR Studio in mid-2019, the platform has become inundated with artists and designers creating their own unique effects for Instagram Stories. And the results have been, well, pretty amazing! In case you’re unaware, Spark AR Studio is an augmented reality platform for Mac & Windows that allows you to create AR effects for mobile cameras. Think of it like Photoshop or Sketch, but for augmented reality. Until last year, if you wanted to submit your own custom AR effects on Instagram Stories, you had to be accepted to the closed beta program… but now anyone can create and submit effects. We created our own astronaut helmet filter for WMD! Click the link below on your phone to share with your followers!
